Hello, lovely humans, Kate Toon here and I’m sad to say that this is the final episode of the Recipe for SEO Success Podcast. Since around 2015, I’ve cooked up nearly 300 episodes with brilliant guests from tech tinkerers to content nerds. It’s been a lot of fun. Thank you for listening, learning, and laughing with me.
This show helped build the Recipe Empire. I’d say it’s been one of the most powerful top of funnel tactics one could ever wish for. Other than SEO. Of course, more than 30,000 people have taken my various courses, my 10 day challenge, my big course. I’ve spoken about SEO all over the world, even at the Yost Conference, which was an absolute career highlight where I spoke with Yoast, Marieke, Rand, and Jono. One of the funnest events I’ve ever been to.
And yes, this little podcast helped pay off my house and buy me a bookshop. So yeah, not bad for me. Now look, I still love SEO. I still believe it is powerful and it works and it is definitely not dead, just constantly evolving. We had mobile search, voice search, now we have LLMS and AI. It’s constantly changing and so am I. My interests have moved on and I’m just not passionate about SEO the way I used to be. Seasons change. It’s time for new adventures and I feel my SEO mission is complete. But before I go, I wanted to give you five evergreen SEO tips, and here they are.
Number one, start with search intent. It’s so not the thing to just be looking at what people are searching for. We really need to understand why they’re searching for it, when, where, how do they feel when they’re searching? We need to understand our customer’s beliefs, desires and fears. We need to solve the real problem, the problem behind the problem. And we can do that with both content marketing and blog posts, but also with our products and services pages. People underestimate the power of those. So really consider your user. Think about why Clive is Googling armpit rash at 3:00 AM in the morning. Be there for him in his hour of need, and Clive will be there with his credit card when he’s ready.
Number two, fix the tech basics. Whatever happens in the world of SEO, you still need a site that is fast, that loads quickly and well, that doesn’t have big, chunky images that take 20 seconds to appear, that is crawlable, that doesn’t have lots of 404 errors or blocks, and that has an easy to understand structure, clean navigation, and that is accessible to people with reading difficulties, site difficulties, hearing difficulties, you know, good contrast.
It’s not too many wiggly, jiggly bits. Make sure your site is beautifully built from a tech point of view, and also works for users. And then of course, genuinely helpful content. Make sure the site you have really serves a purpose. It’s not just there to sell. It is there to help. Make sure your content is up to date. Prune it. Only keep the best content there. Don’t post for the sake of posting.
Number four, nail that on-page optimization. You know, clear titles and headings, internal links, schema, scannable, copy, nicely named images, statistics and facts and specificity, but never sacrifice conversation and conversion just to get ranking.
And most important of all for me, I think it’s build trust. Build a personal brand that people rely on and love. Show your expertise. Provide proof. Show your authority. Be consistent with your tone of voice no matter what platform you are on. And you know, realize that it is a long game. There are no such things as overnight successes these days. It takes time.
So there we go. My final tips to leave you with. Gosh, this is the end of an era. I would cry if I wasn’t dead inside.
What can you do next? You can listen to my new podcast, Hearts, Minds and Money. You can find that on all good podcast players or just look for Kate Toon. It’s my new direction to bring together everything I’ve learned in business so that you can have a business that wins hearts, changes minds, and makes you a decent amount of money.
You can also join the Hearts, Minds and Money Group on Facebook. I will be closing the I Love SEO group and you can migrate over to the new group. And finally, my new book is out now all over the world. It’s called Six Figures in Sales, and it’s all about how to win customers without spending a cent on ads.
There’s some SEO in there. It’s not your average sales books. It delivers big wins without giving money to Meta. So thank you for every download, DM, and review. I’m Kate Toon and I am signing off from the Recipe for SEO Success. Keep it useful, keep it human, keep going, and happy SEOing.
